Advanced English

The Advanced and High Advanced English courses provide enrichment for Advanced/High Advanced Level students in all English skills: speaking, listening, reading and writing. Advanced level Students who take this course will obtain the skills necessary to excel in both professional and academic environments.

Course Focus

Speaking and Pronunciation

Through extensive pronunciation exercises, as well as structured and varied speaking activities, students will develop confidence and acquire necessary skills to speak as though they are a native English speaker. These speaking skills are relevant for both academic and professional purposes, including speaking tests, job interviews, public speaking and presentations.

Listening Comprehension

Through organized and structured listening assignments, students will develop and improve their listening comprehension while exploring a variety of different audio media.

Reading and Vocabulary

In addition to comprehensive vocabulary building activities, students will develop essential reading skills as they explore a variety of different texts, articles and fictional writings.

Writing and Grammar

With specific emphasis on grammar, students will develop and advance their writing skills, enabling them to express their ideas in a more formal style of writing for both academic and business purposes.

English Testing

Students write a practice Cambridge test (FCE, CAE and CPE) every fourth week to measure their progress. By tracking their success, students will know when they are ready to take the official Cambridge examination.

Full-time, Part-time and Pathway Registration Fee: $100. Saturday Registration Fee: $80. All fees are in Canadian Dollars. Prices are subject to change. Textbooks are not included in tuition fees.

Level Placement

Students take a placement test on their first day to determine their English level.

Students tested at level 9 or below are placed in General English.

Students who test at level 10 or above will choose an advanced level course.
